1. Can anyone attend the pre-release?

Yes, the Saviors of Kamigawa pre-release is open to all Magic players.

2. Is there an age limit to attend the tournament?

No, there is no age limit to play in the Saviors of Kamigawa pre-release. We have players as young as 6 and as old as 70 play in our Magic events.

3. Do I have to bring anything to the tournament?

The Saviors of Kamigawa pre-release is a sealed deck event. This means that your entry fee includes all of the cards you will play with during the event. You do not have to bring any cards, unless you want to trade.

It is recommended you bring a pen to the event.

NOTE: Keep an eye on your personal belongings at all times during the show. You don't want someone else to take your cards.

4. What time do I have to be there?

Even though doors open at 8am, you don't have to be there at 8am. During the pre-release, players play in 32-player mini sealed deck tournaments called flights. Flights begin continuously from 8am until 9:30am. So you can show up anytime between 8am and 9:30am and play in the sealed deck events.

5. What is a DCI card and how do I get one?

The DCI is the rating system that Wizards of the Coast (maker of Magic cards) uses to track how well you do in tournaments. If you have never played in a DCI event, you can sign up for free at the Saviors of Kamigawa pre-release. If you have a DCI number, but forgot it, we can look it up for you at the event.

6. What is a "flight?"

A flight is a 32-player sealed deck tournament. During the pre-release, all players will play in flights. The prizes for each flight are exactly the same.

7. What is a foil card?

A foil card is a special Magic card that is only given to players at pre-releases. All players who play in any of the flights will get 1 foil card for free. If you play in 2 flights, you get 2. Also, players in the team event will also receive a free foil card. Players are not allowed to use the foil during the event.
Foil cards are only available while supplies last.

8. Is there going to be a team tournament?

Yes, there will be a 3-player team event at all locations on Saturday and most locations on Sunday. Information on the team event is available at www.graymatterconventions.com.

9. What if I don't have a team, but still want to play in the team tournament?

If you don't have a full team, we will pair you up with other players who are looking to play in the team event. We usually don't have a problem finding other players who want to play.

10. What is a "bonus flight?"

A bonus flight is an additional sealed deck event. Bonus flights start after 12 noon. They are similar to the main event flights. All players receive 1 Champions of Kamigawa Tournament Pack and 3 Saviors of Kamigawa boosters to play. Also, players receive 1 foil card. Players may drop out of the main event at anytime and sign up for a bonus flight.

11. What is a booster draft?

A booster draft is another type of tournament at the pre-release. They are limited to 8 players. Each player receives 3 Saviors of Kamigawa booster packs to play. Prizes are awarded to the top 2 players.

12. What time does the pre-release end?

It depends on how many tournaments you play in during the event. If you want to play in only 1 event, you can be done by 1pm. We will be running tournaments all day long until 8pm. On Sunday, events will run until 6pm.

13. Can I play Saturday or Sunday or both days?

Each day of the pre-release is a separate event. You can play 1 day or both. You don't have to play on Saturday to play on Sunday.
