1. Can anyone
attend the Standard States?
The Standard States is open to
all Magic players who reside in the state. (If you live in New York, you
can only play in the NY Standard States event)
2. Is there an age limit to attend the tournament? No, there is no age limit to
play in the Standard States. We have players as young as
6 and as old as 70 play in our Magic events 3. Do I have to bring anything to the tournament? The Magic States - Standard events are a Standard (type II) event. You must bring a 60-card minimum deck to play with. For more rules about Standard (type II), click HERE.
Doors open at 9am and you must
register for the tournament between 9am and 9:45am. The tournament will
start at 10am. 5. What is a DCI card and how do I get one? The DCI is the rating system
that Wizards of the Coast (maker of Magic cards) uses to track how well
you do in tournaments. If you have never played in a DCI event, you can
sign up for free at any Gray Matter event. If you have a DCI number, but
forgot it, we can look it up for you at the event. A booster draft is another type
of tournament. They are limited to 8 players. Each player receives 3
booster packs to play. Prizes are awarded to the top 2 players. 7. What time does the Standard States end? It depends on how well you do.
States events have between 6-8 rounds, and each round
lasts 1 hour. If you are in the final 8, the event will continue until a
winner is declared.
